STEM Education

Investing in Innovation

Through real-world applications, students will get hands-on and transdisciplinary learning opportunities in science, technology, computer science, robotics, data science, mathematics, engineering, and the arts.

STEM Projects

Every dollar you give is matched by the state of Florida, so your generosity is magnified. Join us in ensuring that every student in Clay County has a dynamic, high-quality public education.

Woz Education STEM Career Pathways

Building the 21st-century STEM talent pipeline across Clay County in partnership with Woz Education.

What started as a pilot in just two of Clay County’s lowest performing science and mathematics schools has grown rapidly in just three years time to include EVERY junior high school in Clay County and seven elementary schools that feed into those junior highs in August 2022.

Our identified pathways and priorities for this project include career pathways including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and drone technology, preparing students for high-wage and in-demand careers whether they’re headed straight into the workforce or college.

On top of that, four Clay County schools have Woz “pathway” status, a national status for schools with five career pathways implemented at their school – Grove Park Elementary, Orange Park Junior High, Wilkinson Junior High, and Keystone Heights Elementary.

Chief Science Officers

In partnership with Northeast Florida STEM2Hub and AT&T, the international Chief Science Officer program began in 2020.

The Chief Science Officer (CSO) program was developed to bring student voice into STEM education. CSOs are students in grades 7–12 who are elected by their peers to be a liaison for STEM in their schools and in their communities. The goals of the Chief Science Officer Program are to:

  • Create a pipeline of diverse STEM leaders.
  • Foster communication and collaboration among CSOs.
  • Enrich school STEM culture and career awareness.
  • Increase student voice in STEM conversations in the community.

STEM Library

We believe that all students deserve exposure to emerging technology and access to hands-on STEM learning opportunities.

That’s why, in addition to supporting the build out of STEM career pathways at 14 schools across Clay County (7 elementary and 7 junior high), August 2022 will launch the STEM Library, available for any teacher across the district K-12th grade in a STEM subject area to check out the very resources we have provided to the original 14! Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and drone technology are all available for check out.

In addition, teachers and schools utilizing the STEM kits will receive ongoing training opportunities to ensure teachers are comfortable delivering high-quality STEM experiences to their students.

Additional STEM Resources

In addition to the above mentioned projects, the Foundation collaborates with a number of stakeholders and the school district to offer professional development to STEM/IT, art, music, and PE elementary school teachers to ensure fundamental computer science concepts are being taught at an early age to spark innovation and interest in STEM education classes, majors, and careers.

We do this through the following:

  • Summer Woz Education STEM/IT teacher training
  • 2-4 STEM/IT, math, art, music, and PE teacher trainings to create cross-curricular STEM learning opportunities
  • Providing all STEM/IT teachers with their own STEM resources like microbits, circuit building kits, and more!
