Investing in Literacy

We want to make sure every student is reading at or above grade level. To support the efforts of dedicated teachers and parents, we provide reading materials to build up pre-K through 3rd grade classroom libraries, providing reading mentors to students in need, and support the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.

Since it’s launch in 2021, over 1,600 children in the 32043/73 zip codes are receiving one free book a month until their 5th birthday through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library!

For just $126, you can provide one child with 12 free books a year!

The Clay Education Foundation is a Regional Partner of the New Worlds Reading Initiative, Florida’s free program that supports students in strengthening literacy skills, building reading confidence, and encouraging a lifelong love of reading. New Worlds Reading delivers monthly free books and activities to eligible VPK students who are not yet meeting age-appropriate standards according to FAST Star Early Literacy and K-5th grade students who are not yet reading on grade level in a Florida public or charter school. Kindergarten Readiness is a direct indicator of 3rd grade literacy success where children who score the highest on Kindergarten screeners are 8x more likely to read on grade level than their lower performing peers.

That’s why the Clay Education Foundation supports Florida’ Grade Level Reading Campaign in Clay County!

59% of 3rd grade students in Clay County achieved a passing score on the FAST reading exam versus 50% statewide.

96% of students showed more interest in reading after the new classroom library books and 72% increase in student literacy scores in 2019-2020.
