Green Cove Springs, FL – November 2020 – the Clay Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization and local education foundation supporting Clay County’s public schools, today announced it has received a grant for $5000 USD from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions.
Through the grant, the Clay Education Foundation will build the first K-8th grade pilot of STEM Career Pathways in Clay County, providing students at Grove Park Elementary and Orange Park Junior High hands-on learning opportunities in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and drone technology to prepare them for the 21st century workforce.
“The Clay Education Foundation realizes that career ready students possess a strong foundation in problem- solving, critical and design thinking, as well as exposure to STEM skills that will help them to be future-ready and competitive for college and career options,” said Makayla Buchanan, Executive Director, Clay Education Foundation. “This project helps lay the foundation for getting students engaged in STEM education from an early age through exposure to emerging technologies and those already being used in the field. Our hope is that by building these talent pipelines, we will eventually be able to push into the high schools with the goal of increasing the number of students to receive in-demand STEM certificates.”
The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as the Clay Education Foundation, that support and advance education initiatives in public safety and technology and engineering. Additionally, the Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting programs that benefit underrepresented populations, including females, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans and others. “This year, the Foundation’s grants will support programs that help millions of students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe,” said Karem Perez, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We are thrilled to partner with organizations like the Clay Education Foundation that are actively making a positive difference in their communities.”
