Clay Education Foundation Leadership Change

Clay County – The Clay Education Foundation, the Clay County District Schools’ direct-support organization today announced its President/Chief Executive Officer Makayla Buchanan will leave the organization July 28th to pursue another opportunity supporting public education at the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations.

During her three-and-a-half-year tenure, Buchanan was responsible for increasing fundraising revenues 450%, launching a number of programs, and building partnerships to support early literacy, STEM education, college and career readiness, and supporting educators.

“It has been an incredible opportunity and privilege to serve my hometown and the Clay County community through the Clay Education Foundation over the last few years. While it is bittersweet to move on, I am excited to see the continued growth and success of the organization through my new role in supporting local education foundations across the state of Florida like the Clay Education Foundation at the Consortium. Thank you to Superintendent Broskie, members of the School Board, principals, teachers and staff, parents, and our community and business partners for your incredible support over the last three years – it is vital that we all work together to support our public school students and teachers,” said Makayla Buchanan, President/CEO of the Clay Education Foundation.

Buchanan will continue to support the Clay Education Foundation during the leadership transition alongside the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has begun its search for a new President/CEO where interviews are currently being scheduled.

“Makayla Buchanan’s vision and leadership has been very instrumental in Clay Education Foundation’s current upward trajectory. During her tenure as President / CEO of the Foundation, she established the Tools 4 Clay Schools Store in Green Cove and Keystone Heights for teachers to receive free school supplies year-round, 3 STEM Career Pathways across the county, Let’s Read Clay early literacy efforts, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and the Clay Parents Connect programs. She also increased our revenues by over 400 percent, and created dozens of new partnerships for public schools that support students and teachers,” stated Gi Teevan, Board Chair at the Clay Education Foundation.
